No matter what award show it is, there always has to be some type of mess up, and this year’s Grammy Awards was no exception. You can’t blame them though. A show like the Grammys is a huge production, and with line-reading, high heels and performances, it’s no surprise something could go wrong. I mean, I know if I had to perform or present at a huge award show, I would defiantly fuck up. The difference is, I’m not famous. However, these people are and they are expected to be perfect 100 percent of the time. Sucks to be them. Regardless, I’m going to scrutinize them anyway.
First off, all I have to say is poor, poor Christina Aguilera. It’s been a rough start to the year for Aguilera. According to TMZ, her and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jordan Bratman, have finally reached a divorce settlement as of today. The two share custody of their son Max and will finally be officially divorced sometime in April.
Well, as if things couldn’t go worse for the blond bombshell, she also majorly fucked up at the Super Bowl two weeks ago when she messed up the lyrics for the National Anthem. It’s okay, Christina, I hardly know them, too, but you would think someone performing at the Super Bowl would know them all. Just saying.
So last night was Aguilera’s chance to fully redeem herself from her Super Bowl fuck up…and lucky for her, she did. She killed it on stage in the Aretha Franklin tribute performance, while singing alongside Martina McBride, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams and Florence Welch. Anthem or no anthem, no one can argue that Aguilera can sing. Just when everything was going perfect for the singer, she slipped and almost fell right off the stage! Christina, did you break a mirror or something, because your luck sucks.
I don’t know if you know this, but we don’t just have Grammy winners this year, but we also had Grammy ‘wimmers.’ When Lea Michele, star of “Glee,” helped to announce Lady Antebellum’s performance alongside Clay Matthews, Super Bowl champion, you could see they were both nervous. Lea Michele’s nerves got the best of her I guess, when she said she was there to announce the two-time Grammy “wimmers,” a mess up I’m sure she will never forget.
However, what I feel to have been the biggest fuck up of the night was the Bob Dylan performance. Opening with Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers, everything was going smoothly. Both the Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers did an amazing job. Unfortunately, that didn’t carry through to Bob Dylan. When he got onstage no one could even hear him. The acoustics were totally overpowering, and for the short time we could actually hear him, he sucked. Note to producers of award shows: please stop having old iconic legends perform. Yes, they were ONCE awesome, but now, they’re old and their voices suck. Everyone is sick of pretending to cheer for them.
