Besides being the name of a fantastic Britney Spears song, (trust me on that one) lace and leather have always been two of the sexiest clothing options available to women. How could they not be? Lace will forever be equated with hot lingerie, while leather draws comparisons to dominatrix type fantasies. For our purposes we can brush those connotations to the side and focus on the fashionable aspect of these two staple items.
Being quite the fan of the leather jacket—(yes I attend the University of Miami where the temperature rarely drops below 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and yes, I also refuse to give up my colorful array of jackets that I squish unsuccessfully into my already low-on-space dorm-room closet) –and also a fierce proponent of the lace camisole, imagine my delight when I opened my e-mails this morning, and Victoria’s Secret had alerted me of their new collection—lace and leather. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who shouted finally, perhaps a little more excitedly than necessary at the start of this new trend.
A lot of times, what’s in fashion, is a lot more appealing to your girlfriends’ eyes than to your boyfriend’s. Well, now we’ve found a style that works both ways.
So how exactly do we rock this look with taking it too far?
For a sexy, but classy, put-together look try a lace corset or bustier, (Bebe has excellent options) now pair that with a pair of killer skinny jeans. Next throw on a cute, fitted leather jacket, with heels to match. You’re good to go.
Okay, so you’re not feeling the jeans that night, try this. Find a silky lace camisole, and tuck it into your high-waisted leather skirt. Complete the look with a pair of ankle boots for a perfect combination of girly and bad-ass.
