The Campus Socialite & FOX Searchlight Pictures Presents the POST GRAD Movie Contest

bradwellen@precioustimeny.com

Many college grads will tell you that a bachelor’s degree is the equivalent of a death certificate signaling the end of fun. I can tell you that this is far from true, however something that graduating does set into motion is the transition from the cozy confines of school life into the unknown world of business, relationships, and making it on your own. Every individual’s post-college experience is different, however it is helpful to see examples of how people adjust to their new role as “just another face in the crowd.” On August 21, FOX Searchlight Pictures will open your eyes to one recent graduate’s journey to discover just where her future lies as she takes the leap from college into adulthood in Post Grad(http://www.foxsearchlight.com/postgrad/). The Campus Socialite has teamed up with the film to offer our readers a chance to win big with our Post Grad Campus Challenge.

Undergraduate students, young adults whose freedom affords them to enroll in mindless elective courses, spend weeknights aggressively drinking and hooking up without consequences, and enjoy a completely stress free existence.  Post graduates, now “responsible” members of society whose exit from school is often accompanied by a prolonged period of unemployment, countless botched job interviews, and a return home to live with overbearing parents.  With this in mind, writer Kelly Fremon, the mind behind Post Grad, has crafted a lighthearted, relatable film inspired by her own post college difficulties:

Ryden Malby (Alexis Bledel) had a plan. Do well in high school, thereby receiving a great college scholarship.  Now that she’s finally graduated, it’s time for her to find a gorgeous loft apartment and land her dream job at the city’s best publishing house. But when Jessica Bard (Catherine Reitman), Ryden’s college nemesis steals her perfect job, Ryden is forced to move back to her childhood home. Stuck with her eccentric family – a stubborn do-it-yourself dad (Michael Keaton), an overly thrifty mom (Jane Lynch), a politically incorrect grandma (Carol Burnett), a very odd little brother (Bobby Coleman) – and a growing stack of rejected job applications, Ryden starts to feel like she’s going nowhere. The only upside is spending time with her best friend, Adam (Zach Gilford) – and running into her hot next-door neighbor, David (Rodrigo Santoro). But if Ryden’s going to survive life as a post grad, it may be time to come up with a new plan…
