On August 28th 2009, the world didn’t just lose one of its best DJ’s, but a major sneaker collector. That was Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM whom compiled approximately 900 sneakers. His collection contains some of the most sought after kicks that have ever been released with doubles of some. By having doubles, he would have a sneaker to wear out and one kept “on ice” as Adam would say.
Before passing away, DJ AM and DJ Premier both designed Nike sneakers that were to be released in a Rivals series. Premier’s Air Force One’s were representing the East Coast while AM’s Dunks were representing the West Coast. Buzz spread amidst sneaker collectors when AM tweeted “This is one of the most amazing moments. I just HELD the sample of MY OWN NIKE DUNK! I never dreamed this would happen. Wow, THANK YOU G0D!”
As for the final product, it is a perfect compilation of materials, design and colors that represent DJ AM. The sneaker is wrapped in premium soft red leather with black patent leather, 3M accenting and a gray Swoosh. The tongue of the sneaker has DJ AM’s logo so you know it’s official.
Taking a further look at these fresh kicks, you’ll notice the heel takes on the pattern of AM’s turntable of choice, Technics. To mimic the actual appearance of the turntables, 3M was used behind the accents on the heel. The black patent leather matches the shine of a vinyl record. The sneaker comes with your choice of red, black and gray laces.

This is a Quickstrike release from Nike, so be sure to find for your pair before they’re gone. My advice, check in with Extra Butter for the DJ AM Dunks, DJ Premier Air Force One’s as well as other kicks. A big thanks to Russell Furchak, Jason Faustino and Evan Katz of Extra Butter for making this go down. For more information about DJ AM, check out our acclaimed article “The Real Story of DJ AM”.
Adam’s love and passion for sneakers truly transpired in the design of these. He deserved to have a sneaker that adds to his legend as an artist.
DJ AM forever
