“Hidden behind her trademark bob and sunglasses, she has never allowed anyone to scrutinize the inner workings of her magazine. Until now.”

Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes of the world’s most influential fashion magazine? Well, starting August 28th, The September Issue will be able to satiate that curiosity. The 90 minute documentary follows legendary fashion editor Anna Wintour and her team as they scramble to put together the infamous September issue of Vogue. The film takes you behind closed doors and provides a glimpse into the sometimes dramatic, always glamorous world of producing what many call the fashion bible. What’s more interesting, perhaps, is that the 2007 issue (when the doc was filmed), was the single largest issue of the magazine ever published. Comparable in size to an encyclopedia, it boasted 727 pages of ads and weighed nearly 5 pounds. To call the process a stressful production would be an understatement.

Directed by R.J. Cutler (The War Room and American High), the film also focuses on Wintour’s counterpart and Vogue’s Creative Director, Grace Coddington. Having worked together for over 20 years, the pair frequently butt heads in an “oil and water” style relationship, but always come together in a successful marriage that ultimately results in the legendary publication of Vogue each month.
The film’s theatrical release in New York is August 28th, and will open in LA and select cities on September 11th.
*On a personal note, I was fortunate enough to see a screening of the film this past week (and also interned there while the doc was being shot), and I assure fashion-lovers everywhere…it won’t disappoint! For more information on the movie click here or check out the the trailer below.
