Twisted Metal Is Back For More Carnage

It’s time to take a break from Call Of Duty, Socialites. It’s been a long time since Sweet Tooth and the bunch have graced our screens, but the Twisted Metal game series is nothing short of legendary, and any new addition is worth talking about. That’s why the newest development, the first new game released in over a decade, is something we need to talk about.

There’s something about controlling a car mounted with space-age weapons and destroying every other car that enters your path of carnage that is so universal and cathartic, that it is impossible not to enjoy it. Who hasn’t been coasting on the highway and not wished they could launch a missile right into the vanity plates of the white benz driving  5 MPH in the fast lane? Ok, maybe that’s a little mean-spirited, but in video game world, all desires are perfectly ok.

Twisted Metal took everything we loved about the murderous Mortal Kombat series, through in a little Gran Turismo and Need For Speed, then added a pinch of psychosis with the deranged Sweet Tooth among other horror movie-worthy characters and the most ridiculous vehicle weaponization you could possibly imagine. What more could you possibly ask for?

The new game doesn’t sacrifice any of the fine qualities that made the older versions so classic. It just puts a modern spin on a great concept, with new graphics, new levels, and all the glitz and glamour of a new generation of gaming. The biggest advancement is the most obvious: multiplayer capability via the Playstation Network. So tell all those 15-year-olds you pwn daily in Call Of Duty, to get in their cars and start shooting because nothing can beat a 90’s gamer on his own turf.

The game is out today on PS3 and costs your standard $60. If you remember Twisted Metal like I do, you need to pick up a copy. If you never had the experience, all the more reason. Happy hunting.
