Yes, you read the title correctly… the rights to the viral video that swept Youtube and started the “Jersey Shore” obsession, back in 2007, have been sold. Who would be crazy enough to take on such a task? Well, none other than Scott Mednick.
Mednick was the mastermind behind Where the Wild Things Are and 300 and co-producer of TMNT and Public Enemies. If you ask me, a Jersey Shore movie is FAR from his usual genre but will be a hit nonetheless. This is what Mednick had to say to Variety, “Mednick credits the viral video with fueling the fascination with the New Jersey lifestyle, as chronicled on the MTV reality skein Jersey Shore. ‘I truly believe that in this day and age, the convergence of viral concepts blended with the ability to tell stories on the big screen is a key part of creating new franchises.’”
The nation has come down with the Jersey Shore virus, blasting house music and fist-pumping our little hearts out. Should we be happy that kids have taken to gelling their hair and wearing bedazzled shirts? Should we look forward to more “Jersey Shore” shenanigans? You tell me…
