Assuming we don’t all get blown away by a Hurricane, or get toppled by a falling building after an Earthquake, fall is here and it’s time to start dressing like it. As a general rule, guys don’t think about the season when they’re picking their clothes out. We go more with what’s comfortable, and hey, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you wanna dress to impress, and maybe catch some much needed female attention, you can’t just rock those bright plaids and polos until you start getting frostbite. No worries though. The Campus Socialite has you covered with some easy as pie fall weather fashion fixes. Learn this.
Brown, Brown and more Brown
If the only pair of nice shoes you own is the Payless black leathers you wore with your graduation gown, you’re in more trouble than you think. Fall is all about earth tones, and besides the very attractive world of insects, when is the last time you saw jet black occur in nature. You need to go brown. Get yourself a pair of brown shoes, but not shimmery brown; worn in brown. Then get yourself a brown belt to match it and some brown socks. Black is easy, brown makes a statement. Trust me, people will notice.
Slim it Down
I don’t care if you pay $300 for Jeans at a boutique on 5th Avenue or $25 at Old Navy. If you buy jeans that actually fit you, you will automatically look more stylish. It’s crazy I know, but look at any billboard, any men’s magazine ad, any guy you’ve ever heard someone refer to as stylish. If there is no physical evidence of a leg under that blue denim, send it over, because I don’t believe you. Slim fit doesn’t mean Skinny. You will be able to walk, sit down, join a Soccer Riot and do anything you would normally do, promise. Go to your favorite store, and find the line of jeans labeled Slim Fit. Almost every legit clothing store has them. Devote some time to trying pairs on and just find one that’s slim yet still comfortable. Nice fitting jeans are hard to come by, so if you find a pair, buy it in every wash and variety they have. You can now roll out of bed, throw on the pair of jeans at the top of your 3 foot clothing pile, add a white t-shirt and people will still think you’re stylish. Crazy, right?
Ditch The Contacts (Sometimes)
If you’re like me, you grew up watching 90’s sitcoms and will never truly get over the idea that glasses automatically make you a nerd. I’ve been wearing Contacts since I was 15 years old, but recently I went and got myself a pair of stylish glasses and I wear them about 3 times a week. Not only is it so much better for your eyes but glasses are stylish and at the very least, it feels pretty liberating to not have a piece of plastic sucking the life out of your retinas. Brad Pitt rocks glasses, Kanye rocks glasses, how much more proof do you need? Go to your local eyeglass shop and get yourself a pair of black frames, thick but not too thick. The great thing about glasses is they will offset the shape of your face, making you look a little more symmetrical. If you have a round face, go with square glasses, and if you have a square face, go with round ones. A dude that knows how to rock glasses is a dude that knows how to dress. They’ll make anything you throw on look that much more snazzy.
All About The Coat
I have friends who can seriously rock a T-shirt and shorts until there’s 1 foot of snow on the ground. No joke. As someone who gets cold faster than your prom date on her fourth Jack and Diet, I both envy these people and pity them, because nothing says style like an awesome fall coat. Fall coats wont actually keep you warm in any kind of seriously inclement weather, but they’re good for a little wind and they’re something stylish that you can wear every day. The best fall coats are earth toneish colors (olive green, brown, navy) and fall at your hip. Think James Dean’s leather jacket type fit. Find one that suits your style and rock it with those slim jeans, a t-shirt, and the brown shoes. When it gets a little cooler, layer it with a sweater and a scarf. The scarf can be on the bright side because it will offset the muted colors of your coat. A little clash is good sometimes, and besides black, there’s almost nothing that can make earth tones look bad. Everyday versatility and style, all in one item of clothing.
Go Easy on Your Hair
This little bit of fashion advice actually goes for all seasons. Many of these do. Unless you’re getting paid by MTV to go to the gym and do your laundry, solid gels are so 2 years ago. The key is to make your hair look like you didn’t even touch it and it still came out looking sexy as hell. The key to this is all in the product and all i’ll say is one word: Pomade. Pomade is awesome because it will keep your hair in place without making it look like it could saw a block of wood in half. Regular Pomade is this gunky wax stuff so I recommend going with one of the many variations, preferably one that’s oil-based or cream-based. Got 2B makes a relatively cheap Cream Pomade and I highly recommend it. All it takes is a little bit and a quick hand through your hair once it dries. Besides, I hear Pauly D is getting his own show, which means the price of Gel is sure to sky rocket.
