After a wild weekend of quarterfinals games that included number one ranked Virginia edging out Stony Brook (8) by just one goal, Duke (5) ousting UNC (4) by 8 goals, and Maryland (3) being upset in a tight battle with Notre Dame, four have teams will move on to Baltimore.
With favorites such as Syracuse (2) and Maryland (3) out of the contest, it looks like Virginia’s (1) road to a championship is looking closer. After the death of Virginia’s women’s lacrosse player Yeardly Love, the men’s team will do their best attempt to do what the women’s team could not do this year- bring back a championship. UVA’s women’s team was no match to North Carolina’s surging offense in the quarterfinals and the emotional women’s squad season came to an end.
This Saturday, Virginia and fellow ACC team Duke meet at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore for a semifinals match at 6:30pm. The game can be viewed on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com.
The other semifinal matchup on Saturday features a very hot Notre Dame team playing with one of the hottest goalies between the pipes, Scott Rodgers. Maryland came in to last week’s match against Notre Dame with a quality win over Hofstra in the opening round, but was shut down by an aggressive defense and goaltending. The Fighting Irish will take on Cornell (7) at 4pm. The game can be viewed on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com.
The men’s NCAA D1 lacrosse championship will be held Monday, May 31st at 3:30pm from Baltimore, which may also be viewed on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com.
