College is a time when people strike out on their own. During this phase of their life, students are given the opportunity to experience many aspects of life that they may not have been exposed to earlier. Some of this exposure comes as a result of college programs designed to help students become aware of the arts and different cultural events. Other students actively seek out this exposure on their own, visiting museums or experiencing an art auction first hand. For many of these students, this was not the type of stuff their parents showed an interest towards.

Rich people invest in pricey paintings and fancy pottery, because these items are generally part of a solid investment strategy. Consequently, if a student can develop an eye for original works of art, they can potentially pad their future.
One way to get started is to regularly attend art showings at local galleries. Sure, a college student starting out may not be a great art critic now, but getting to know people in the industry is how one starts to come to be in the know. Seeking out people at these shows who regularly buy art is one way to find out who is buying specific pieces of art and why they are buying them. Many professional art investors can help a student to know what to look for in a piece, so as not to waste time or money on art that will not increase in value over time. Before long, the student will be on their way making their own art purchases from quality artists.
Culture and Food
Aside from the art scene, there is also the whole culture and food scene. A college student may not have been exposed to the works of Shakespere. They may not have ever been to a book signing before either. Of course, there is also the poetry reading down at the campus coffee shop. It really does not matter how a young college student gets introduced to fine art, food and rich cultural experiences. What matters is how these experiences enhances the students perspective on life. Living life more fully is what art, food, and culture are supposed to be all about.
