As Season 2 Approaches, We Reflect on Our Night with Jersey Shore’s First Couple: Sammi and Ronnie

The date was January 8, 2010, the setting: McHebe’s Bar, the time: approximate 1:15 am… one small step for man, one giant step for Guido-kind. A night fueled by Jager Bombs, body shots, Axe Instinct spray, and enough fist pumping to knock out Floyd Mayweather Jr.garnered instant classic status with the arrival of Seaside Heights royalty Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola. Although McHebe’s reached a fever pitch when these two overnight celebrities finally arrived, the Hofstra hot spot was rocking like Jersey’s own Karma night club well before they made their entrance.

To fully understand the insanity that overtook McHebe’s on that fateful Friday, one must put themselves in my Air Max ’95s and take on the role of the casual observer. Now, I love to party as much as the next guy, but keep in mind that I am a few years removed from college and have a little rust on my wheels when it comes to the dive bar scene. In this case, I felt like a plane crash survivor thrown into the jungle and to be quite honest with you – I loved it. Have underage girls always been dancing on bars like a scene out of Coyote Ugly or did I just go to an extremely conservative school? These chicks were shaking their asses like I had a “Girls Gone Wild” press pass around my neck and stacks of $100s taped to my shirt. From what I can gather, the setting was perfect for this type of animalistic partying– the beer flowed like wine and resident music man D.J. Play was doing his best D.J. Pauly D impression and clicking on all cylinders with such classics as Juvenile’s “Back That Ass Up” and of course LMFAO’s anthem to booze, “Shots.” But the X-factor that really blew the roof off McHebe’s was the anticipation of meeting Ronnie and Sammi.

When the moment of truth finally arrived (kudos to McHebe’s for holding off until after 1 am to maximize drink sales), Ron-Ron and Sam-Sam were met with a louder and more frenzied response than The Beatles on their first trip to the U.S. The way these kids flocked to the guests of honor, you would think they were rabid Pro-Life activists outside of an abortion clinic just after prom night. Once some order was restored, the smaller than I thought Ronnie and surprisingly sexier than I thought Sammi were kind enough to take some pictures and even record a special shout-out to The Campus Socialite. Unfortunately, The Campus Socialite’s official sound guy had a few too many Ciroc and OJ’s (he’s a big pussy) and totally dropped the ball, leaving us some visuals without any audio accompaniment. Hopefully, you can read Ronnie and Sammi’s drunken lips as they are clearly saying, “Jersey Shore loves The Campus Socialite!” Check out the culmination of our night of mayhem below…

Tune into the season Jersey Shore 2 tonight at 10 PM ET on MTV.
