When I first got into Syracuse University, I was anxious over who I would be randomly paired to room with in the notorious residence hall known only as Day. Would it be an uptight Asian? Would it be a weird creepy smelly dude like the one who was paired with our one-time friend and fellow film major Reid Hansen? Would it be someone from the Syracuse Basketball team!!?!? It turned out to be none of the above…it turned out to be a jolly headband wearing guy from Philadelphia named Benjamin Daniels, who revealed on day one that he was known by most people as “Wiggles.”
At first I found this to be ridiculous: He wasn’t a kitten or a tire salesmen…I couldn’t see myself calling him anything other than Ben. Well sure enough fast forward to a few days later and EVERYONE is calling him Wiggles, myself included. To this day my mother still refers to him as Wiggles. Wiggles and I were both film majors at SU, as well as guys who loved meaningless conversation and competitive banter, obsessed over sports, and had similar bodily structures…I’ll just put it that way. Since college, Wiggles produced and directed a film called This is My Cheesesteak, which won several awards all across the country.
Wiggles and I have been talking about doing a MEN of 501 (our freshman year dorm room) podcast for a long time now but our equally hectic schedules as reality tv professionals has kept us apart…UNTIL NOW. Wiggles joins me to talk about the NCAA Tournament, the BYU Scandal, the NFL lockout, Showgirls, Blow-jobs, and what you should base the amount you tip at a restaurant on.
As you will see with this special addition of A Shot of Yager and any additional podcasts with myself and Benjamin Daniels (we are trying to make it a regular thing), we move from topic to topic with no regard for the proper segue, letting our conversation live and breath like an independent organism…just like two guys sitting in a college dorm room with some glass in their hand. ENJOY!
