Every weekend, I get the pleasure of hearing students say “Hey, what bar do you want to hit up tonight.” The next Monday, I get to hear how they had to pay over six dollars for a warm beer. Well to partially quote an Apple iPhone commercial “There is an app [to help avoid] that.” Well in Austin anyway. The people from Shattered Axis Technologies present the application Bar Buzz for the iPhone.
This application allows users to find the cheapest drink specials at most places in Austin. The locations range from bars in West Campus to bars and clubs on 6th street. It even includes a feature that allows you to call a taxi company from the app to get your drunk self home.
The app will also allow you to send invites to your friends to let them know exactly which bars/clubs you will be hitting up this weekend. The creator is working on a feature called Augmented Reality, which will allow users to turn on their camera, and they will be able to see where the bar actually is. The best part is that it’s free but only for iPhone users at this point. They are however planning on expanding to a web application and working their way toward Android.
For those who like to advertise, this application allows businesses to advertise on the application as well. You help get your name out there while bringing club goers into your business, and if you are skeptical if you business is getting ripped off, Bar Buzz can help with that as well. Bar Buzz allows clubs/bars see if they are getting their monies worth by allowing them to see statistics from past weeks from the point of advertising on Bar Buzz.
