Wow. Just wow. Dexter never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think that the show is going to take a dive and lose all of its energy, it does the complete opposite. Dexter is a totally different character than ever before. He’s deeper, more emotional. If you thought that he was a three-dimensional character for the first four seasons, then now he’s five-dimensional. While all the other characters said that they couldn’t tell what he was feeling, I saw it very, very clearly written all over his face. He didn’t need to speak or think or do anything in order for me to see that even a serial killer can be traumitized. He proved it when he lashed out and killed an innocent stanger in an attempt to vent his frustration.
I can’t say that I like Deb Morgan any better than I had previously, though. She just gets on my nerves. Possibly now more than ever, actually. That might be due to the fact that now the disparity in depth of character between Dexter and her is even larger. Actually, now that I think about it, every character seems fairly dull compared to Dexter. Hmm…maybe Deb should get killed off at the end of this season. That’d make for an interesting twist wouldn’t it? Or maybe someone will just mercilessly slaughter the whole Miami Metro Homicide Department. Even better twist.
This episode was fairly slow, but that was to be expected as the plot hasn’t even been defined yet. All in all, this was a great start to a new season that I hope keeps everyone on their toes.
