With the recent retirement of Ricky Williams, it was just a matter of time before an athlete tried to follow in his footsteps. Meet former Tampa Bay Ray, Elijah Dukes. The average person probably has no idea who he is, but they might now for all the wrong reasons.
Elijah Dukes is facing two charges from police with the first being marijuana possession. This is certainly not uncommon, as many people smoke weed hoping not to get caught. The second charge he’s facing is what makes the story disturbing: Destroying evidence by eating the entire bag of weed. What gave it away? The police saw flakes of pot on his shirt.
Eating the crumbs left over from your pot brownie is one thing. Shoving the remains of a plastic bag filled with weed into your mouth is just downright embarrassing. This has to be the low point in Elijah Duke’s career, and trust me he knows a thing or two about low points (batting average of .190 during his stint with the Rays). Dukes was only in the MLB for three seasons which also included being a member of the Washington Nationals. This is also not the first time Dukes has been arressted. His rap sheet includes charges of domestic violence, failure to pay child support, and more marijuana possession.
After being waived by the Washington Nationals, Dukes started his own rapping career going by the nickname “Fly Eli,” and no we’re not talking about Eli Manning letting it fly. The troubled athlete actually blamed baseball for blackballing him from the league. Apparently, he tried to do his best Jose Canseco impression to rat on his fellow players and tell league officials who was smoking weed after games. Hey Elijah, the cat’s already out of the bag. We already knew professional athletes smoke weed. Except they usually don’t eat it.
