I’ve been slammed at work since Tuesday which meant Friday afternoon was my first chance to go pick up Madden 2011.
I’m about 99% sure I’ve had every version of the game. Maybe I missed one or two along the road, but it’s unlikely.
Just finished up my first game and I’m here to share my quick thoughts….
* It’s going to take a little getting used to, but I like the no speed burst. EA Sports made a similar change in the NHL franchise a couple years back (not sure if they kept it I stopped buying the NHL games a few years ago). It gives the game a more realistic feel.
* In NCAA Football 2011 they made a fantastic change when you go no huddle. If you hold triangle it brings up your entire playbook and you can click any play. It is inexcusable that Madden didn’t go with the same system. Instead Madden went with the traditional audible options in the no huddle, terrible.
* They completely revamped the hot route buttons on offense and defense. Another bad decision. If it’s not broken don’t fix it. Now it takes way too long to change a route, or if I want to bring my corners into press coverage it is a pain in the ass.
* The worst change Madden made was revamping the kicking system. They went from moving the joystick back to hitting the X button. I hate it. Don’t know if it is just me but on the way back down the game just ignores me when I hit X and gives me a crappy kick.
This will be my only article on Madden for a little bit, but in a month or two once I get bored with my Jets franchise I will figure out how to master the fantasy draft and if I am nice I will reveal my secret.
