Whether you’ve been one of the people desperately scrounging around on the Internet for scraps of information, or are oblivious to what Inception is, there is one thing I’m almost certain of: come July 16th, you will be a part of the horde of people snaked around the movie theater waiting to see it. Why am I so sure of this? Because if a summer blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Juno‘s Ellen Page isn’t enough, it is also ::drum roll please:: directed by Christopher Nolan, in his much anticipated first movie since the success of The Dark Knight.
Finally, after 3 trailers and still not much insight as to the real plot behind Inception, Warner Brothers has granted us with a plot synopsis! (Don’t worry, there are no spoilers!):
Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible—inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.
Even with this plot synopsis, the mystery behind Inception still lingers, and serves as one of the main points of intrigue for movie buffs all over. Nowadays, trailers unfortunately seem to quite literally give everything away, so the way the advertising team behind Inception has deftly handled things has been a breath of fresh air. Check out the trailer and decide for yourself: can you resist being at the theaters to see Inception on July 16th? My guess: probably not!
