Statistics show that 1 in 2 people will get an STD by the age of 25. Being 25 myself, those are pretty scary numbers. At times STDs might seem unavoidable, but MTV has created a campaign that will do its best to at least get young people in the doctor’s office, so they can know their status. The campaign is called GYT or Get Yourself Tested. GYT is a lifestyle brand, the purpose of which is to become ingrained in youth culture, much like music or fashion. The campaign will feature TV spots, social network spots, and a presence at concerts and events during the summer. STDs will never be gone, but a lot of people are infected solely because their partner never got tested. MTV wants to make getting tested not something to attach stigmas to or be afraid of, but rather, something that’s just part of your life. GYTNOW.org even features an easy way to find testing centers, or you could text your zip code to GYTNOW (498669). The message is “Know yourself. Know your status.” Check out the campaign video, after the jump.
