We here at The Campus Socialite are gearing up for a crazy weekend. Mardi Gras has commenced, St. Paddy’s in Hoboken, NJ, and The Downtown Records Music Festival this Saturday at Terminal 5. We’ll be there. Will you?

The Show will feature Miike Snow and Major Lazer, along with special guests Santigold, DJ Medhi, and So Me. The show will celebrate half a decade of Downtown Records, and at $50 a pop, is already sold out. Luckily for you, The Campus Socialite will be there for all the action, and you can look forward to a review by yours truly on Sunday. Then again, make that Monday.

Miike Snow is not one man, but rather three. Two Swedish childhood pals named Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg worked on a few different projects together, but after crossing paths with American Andrew Wyatt, the three stayed in touch and formed Miike Snow in 2007. All three have roots in the DJ, Punk, and Pop music scenes, and together create a well rounded and, incredibly unique, and intelligent  sound. Their self-titled album is due out this summer.

Major Lazer is the brain child of super producers Diplo and Switch. According to Major Lazer himself, “His True mission is to protect the world from the dark forces of evil that live just under the surface of a civilized society. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered skateboard.” His roots are in Jamaice, and his music draws on both Jamaican dance-hall music and American Electronica. His first EP “Lazers Never Die” was released in 2010.
