Hey if you’re ever pitching a perfect game and you want someone to blow it for you, don’t look to the opposing batter or dugout, just look at the guy above. He will be your friendly everyday umpire. This man is Jim Joyce and he is the world’s worst umpire ever. He probably has death threats and numerous amounts of curse words being thrown his way right about now, deservedly so, well maybe not the death threats but still, his actions warrant some sort of punishment. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…
Terrible, horrendous call. I’ve been watching sports since I was 5, I’m 22 now and I have never seen such a blown call in my life. This guy has just ruined Armando Galarraga’s perfect day. You have sullied the most important day of this young man’s career. This is not a feat that anyone can do or someone can do more than one time, this was probably Armando’s one and only chance to ever come close to throwing a ballgame like he did last night. And Jim Joyce, the most hated man in America, ruined it with a safe call at first. Are you freaking kidding me? First off the guy was out and second off, even if it was a bang bang play, which it wasn’t, you gotta give it to this guy, who is one out away from pitching a perfect game. I have a question for you Jim Joyce, you are a umpire, you have probably watched some perfect games in your life, either on TV or maybe you even got the chance to ump one, have you seen the strike zone some of these pitchers get when they are late in on a perfect game? Ridiculous, just look at some of the pitches Dallas Braden was getting in his perfect game earlier this season. The umps are giving these guys pitches and you cant give this guy the last out of the game? Even if you thought he was safe, WHICH HE WAS OUT, you have to make that call, its common sense Jim Joyce.
Take a look at how some media outlets responded to Joyce’s botched call…
NEW YORK — Major League Baseball was still deciding Thursday morning whether to review the umpire’s blown call that cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game.
Commissioner Bud Selig has the power to reverse umpire Jim Joyce’s missed call that came with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night in Detroit. Joyce ruled Cleveland’s Jason Donald safe, then admitted he got it wrong and tearfully apologized in person to the pitcher. – ESPN
Now that the Commish is looking this one over, it proably will be called a perfect game and maybe this post is all for nothing, but if you watched last year’s playoff goofs by the umpires, its time for the league to bring in instant replay. This could have been a bases loaded situation with the game on the line in the World Series and the call would have been safe and a team’s dream season is over. You cannot overturn a win. The NHL, NBA and NFL do the replays so well now that the officials from each sport rarely make a bad call, even though us as fans think with our hearts instead of our heads on most of the plays. So MLB, time to get your replay on.
