Everything I’ve read about Ellie Goulding has portrayed her as some delicate, fairy-like musical entity. Interview Magazine wrote about her “ethereal and airy pop hooks.” Rolling Stone describes her music as “sweet, sexed-up folktronica,” a combination of folk and electronic. Even Spin quotes her whole sound and look as “whiny, wholesome dance pop.” Ellie Goulding is all of those descriptions if you’ve only listened to her on your laptop or your iPod.
On Friday July 29th, I attended Ellie’s performance at Terminal 5 in NYC, and I was blown away. “Sweet,” “ethereal” and “airy” doesn’t do Ellie justice. She moved across the stage in sky-high, leopard print wedges, and brought an energy to the stage that clearly moved the audience. Every girl and guy in the venue sang along word-for-word and danced to every song. This British beauty is someone to watch out for. Yes, Ellie Goulding’s sound is sweet, airy and ethereal, but there’s an edge you only see in her performances that shows Ellie is a powerhouse! Below is a video of her performing “Everytime You Go” from her debut album “Lights.”
