The Debut of "Corner Kicks" with World Cup Reporter Mike Levitt

Hello All,

Welcome to Corner Kicks with Mike Levitt

Obviously, this site is dedicated to everything that has to do with the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Anyway, from June 3rd through July 10, I will take the plunge, arriving in Johannesburg, South Africa from JFK in New York. I will remain in South Africa for 40 days, traveling the country and reporting on everything about the World Cup — from the excitement on the field and the rumblings and rumors about the teams, to the wonderful food and interesting people I am bound to meet.

I will follow the United States’ national team to all of their Group C games — June 12 against England in Rustenburg, June 18 against Slovenia in Johannesburg, and June 23 against Algeria in Pretoria — as well as travel across the country to Cape Town for the Quarterfinals and Semi-Finals before heading back to Johannesburg for the Final on July 11.

In short, I hope to give a comprehensive glimpse of the greatest sporting event in the world. Both of the action of the field and the excitement off of it. As an avid world soccer supporter and professional journalist, it is my goal to peak the interest of Americans not otherwise interested in the sport. By the end of July, I will make soccer fans out of everyone that follows my travels. I guarantee it!

For your viewing pleasure, below is a video I made of my preparations (apprehensions regarding the trip, inoculations, etc.) and my trip to the United States’ training camp in Princeton, NJ. While in camp, I was able to interview Clint Dempsey and Benny Feilhaber, both of whom figure to feature for the team this summer. Enjoy!
