This year has had many ups and downs for us average Joes as well as for the fabulously famous, especially when it comes to love. While Katy Perry and Russell Brand may have sealed the deal with marriage vows, other celebrity couples have not been so lucky. Through the Tiger Woods drama to the more recent split of Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, there certainly have been many surprising divorces this year. Here are some of the most publicized separations of 2010.
Celebrity Separation – Kate Winslet & Sam Mendes
The “Oscar curse” has struck again. Shortly after being awarded Best Actress for her performance in The Reader, Kate Winslet and husband and director Sam Mendes announced their separation in March after less than 7 years of marriage. This shows that while every actress may strive to win such a prestigious award, it may be the downfall to the most important relationship in your life.
Celebrity Divorce – Eva Longoria & Tony Parker
Actress Eva Longoria and basketball player Tony Parker have officially called it quits. The “Desperate Housewives” star filed for divorced on November 17, 2010, ending the 3-year marriage due to “irreconcilable differences.” Amid rumors of Parker’s infidelity, Longoria allegedly uncovered hundreds of sexy text messages going on between Parker and Erin Barry, the wife of former Spurs teammate Brent Barry. Either way, it is saddening to see such an attractive couple who were “destined to be together,” according to friends and loved ones, not make it to the end.
Celebrity Split – Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds
While many of their greatest fans even have trouble uncovering information about this private couple, it was no secret these 2 incredibly sexy individuals decided to end their 2-year marriage after “long and careful consideration” in mid-December. Their friends apparently didn’t see it coming, nor did anyone else. Due to their intense privacy, no one will probably ever really know what happened between them. However, it may be due to their incredibly busy work schedules, filming movies in different cities and even countries at times. Even so, the couple was seen sharing “a friendly meal,” according to People in NYC the other night, so who knows, maybe it’s not officially done after all. Honestly, while it’s great to know Ryan Reynolds may be back in the singles market, I want him and Scarlett to work for the sole reason that they must have amazingly hot sex.
Celebrity Divorce – Sandra Bullock & Jesse James
Another victim of the “Oscar curse”? After winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock and Jesse James called it quits. However, we cannot be so quick to blame the oscar for this one – Jesse James’ cheating and unfaithfulness is the main reason behind the split. After being married for 5 years, the divorced was finalized in June of this year. Sandra is too fabulous for him anyway, in my opinion.
Celebrity Divorce – Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman
While it seems like Christina has fallen in and out of stardom since those years of “Genie in a Bottle,” the main reason for her temporary fall-out was to start a family. Christina married music executive Jordan Bratman after 3 years of dating in 2005 and gave birth to a son, Max. After 5 years of marriage, Aguilera confirmed their separation citing “irreconcilable differences” and filed for divorce in October. In an interview with People, Aguilera explained she did not want her son to grow up in an unhappy home, and decided the healthiest decision was to end the marriage.
Celebrity Divorce – Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren
After months of non-stop publicity, Tiger Woods and Swedish model Elin Nordegren finalized their divorce in August. The famous golfer’s career has been damaged since his reported sex scandal over a year ago in November. After allegedly sleeping with numerous blondes and socialites, Woods lost many of his endorsements and fell into a slump, both with his career and with his marriage. Nordegren reportedly gained close to $700 million after ending their marriage of less than 6 years. The couple is apparently sharing child custody, and Woods will always be known from here on out as a womanizer and, frankly, an butt.
Celebrity Separation – David Arquette & Courteney Cox
After 11 years together, the former-happy couple admits that have been separated for several months. While the couple is not divorced and still seem to have a great deal of affection for one another, the twosome has been separated for various reasons since June. Apparently, Arquette blames Jennifer Aniston for the split and called the “Howard Stern Show” in October divulging intimate details about his failing marriage. Arquette told the radio show that he and Cox hadn’t had sex in over a month, that Cox wants the separation since she is “tired of being his mother” and that he has slept with two different women since the separation. While Arquette admits he spilled too many details to the radio show, he and Cox say they are going to keep working and will do everything possible to stand by their 6-year-old daughter, Coco.
