Every year millions of Americans sit around the dining room table passing dishes full of turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing, eagerly waiting to dive into their full plate of food. Before anyone can get one bite in, someone (usually grandma or a crazy aunt) will ask the age-old Thanksgiving question: What are you thankful for? Everyone around the table groans, but then one by one, each member of the family begrudgingly admits to the thing they are most thankful for this year. We’ve all heard the cliché answers — family, friends, my dog, but as college students, I think we can come up with a whole new list of things to be thankful for this Turkey Day.

6. The semester is almost over

By the time you have returned to campus, most colleges will be quickly moving towards finals week — definitely NOT something to be thankful for (except when it’s over). Relish in your last few weeks of the semester by taking advantage of everything your school has to offer.

5. Four Loko

It may be on its way to the grave, but Four Loko has brought college students many hours of enjoyment this year. Whether you love the fun, colorful cans or the great times you had when you drank it (that you may or may not remember), give thanks to Phusion Projects, the drink’s creator, this Thursday.

4. The college Thanksgiving

One of my favorite new Thanksgiving traditions is making a full Turkey Day dinner in my apartment with my roommates before we all go our separate ways for break. This year marked only my second go at a turkey, but how many 21-year olds can say they’ve made a whole Thanksgiving dinner… successfully?

3. Your college friends

Yeah, your friends from home are great. They know you better than anyone and you’ve probably known them for most of your life, but you have a different bond with your school friends. Have you thanked them for being a part of your life lately?

2. Thanksgiving break

College friends are great, but reuniting with your friends from home is special too. Seeing everyone descend for Thanksgiving break is like having a second Homecoming. Add in your mom’s cooking, your own bed and no responsibilities for a few days and you’ve got yourself a party.

1. Thanksgiving Eve

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you are very much aware that the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is the biggest drinking night of the year. Everyone gets together to reminisce about the past over shots, bottles of beer and other alcoholic beverages.
