Your Life Could Be Worse…or Public

When people think of social networking sites, they tend to exclude those where people post anonymously. However, sites besides Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are connecting people all over the world.

Take for example, FMLife.com. Anybody can post outrageous stories about how their lives suck on this site, and anybody else can comment and either try to make the writer feel better or reinforce their beliefs that yes, your life does in fact suck. It has gained national recognition, especially around the college-aged generation. It’s funny to walk around campus and overhear somebody finish a sentence with “FML.”

Then there’s Textsfromlastnight.com.  I love this one. Here, people post funny texts they’ve either sent or received. They are classified by area code, which makes it fun to search your area code and see what crazy things people you may know have idiotically said. There is something important to be learned with this site though. People use texting as an intimate way of communication, thinking only they and the person they are sending the text to are viewing the content. However, the viewer can easily show friends what you’ve sent (something we all know and brush off because guaranteed, we’ve shown people what texts we’ve received), but now they can be posted online for everyone to read. Something to think about before you receive that text reminding you, “(608): you handed the cop a condom last night and said “it’s all about protect and serve right?””

TFLN was my favorite one of these sites until the other day when I noticed people saying ridiculous things on Facebook ending with MLIB. So naturally, I Googled ‘MLIB’ and what do you know? Mylifeisbro.com is the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced. It’s all about ‘brotastic’ ways to incorporate ‘bro’ into a conversation as much as possible. Also, these crazy bros are really into lacrosse, sandwiches and jelly bronuts.

Whether you’re bored, need to kill a few minutes or just want to laugh and possibly not study for your bio-chem exam, I’d really recommend checking out these sites. Not only are they funny, but guaranteed you’ll feel better about your life after reading about everyone else’s.
