Throwback Thursdays Holiday Edition Part 2: The Hanukkah Song, Rugrats Chanukah, and Hebrew Hammer

throwback-thursdays-new

It’s the third day of the Jewish holiday known as Chanukah (or Hanukkah, for people who butcher the “Ch” sound), which means the third crappy present in a sequence of eight. But Chanukah isn’t about the presents: it’s about the story of the Maccabees, and lighting stuff on fire. Let’s celebrate Judaism with Part 2 of Throwback Thursdays Holiday Edition.

Adam Sandler’s Hannukah Song

“Hannukah is the festival of lights, instead of one day of presents we have eight crazy nights.” Immortal words from the late great Adam Sandler. Wait, he’s not dead? Could have fooled me…but besides that low blow, Adam Sandler is famous for celebrating the stuff out of his Jewish heritage, and letting all the heebs out there know they’re not alone: they have the entire entertainment industry (as well as doctors, lawyers, and bankers) behind them.

Did you know that it’s incredibly hard to hard the full version of this episode online? I would have loved to have found a working version on YouTube, but unfortunately the only place I could get it was on Nick.com, so you’ll just have to deal with this super small version (full screen if you intend on watching the whole thing). If you didn’t know the story of Chanukah, now you do.

Hebrew Hammer

Adam Goldberg is the quintessential Jew. Seriously. He’s played “that Jewish guy” in every movie you’ve ever seen. Case in point: Saving Private Ryan. In Hebrew Hammer, a made-for-television movie, Goldberg dons his best rabbi gear and fights Andy Dick’s evil Santa Claus as a crime fighting detective/Shaft for the Jewish people. It’s stupid as hell, and doesn’t really have anything to do with Hannukah, but there’s a giggle or two and at least one “that’s so true” moment in there.
